UK - ESB-MC-3D

TGS-NOPEC has recently completed processing on its first major multi client 3D survey in the UK.  The East Shetland Basin Survey (ESB-MC-3D) covers almost 1,000 sq km of licensed and open acreage, the majority of which is included in the UK 20th Licensing Round.

ESB-MC-3D focuses on the undeveloped Emerald field, and lies to the south of Heather and south west of Lyell, Ninian and Columba.  The survey is therefore located in an area with a known hydrocarbon system.  DNO has recently announced a new discovery on its West Heather field, and preliminary results of the ESB-MC-3D survey indicate a number of possible plays in open acreage.

Potential hydrocarbon plays are considered to be primarily synrift sands of late Jurassic age, and both stratigraphic and structural traps could be present.  Other possible targets in this area are the traditional reservoirs of the early and mid Jurassic.  Triassic reservoirs could also form a new play within the survey area, as well as hitherto unexplored stratigraphic traps in the Tertiary.

The data sample is East Shetland Basin MC3D, showing inversion and rollover structure in basin, with possible Brent sands.
