Norwegian Sea - Ras Basin

The Rås Basin and in particular the Cretaceous interval is a challenging task due to its severe noise problems. The bright set of reflectors in the centre left part of the line below is a sand prone interval (Lysing Sand). This is hardly visible on the original data or any other data from the same area.

This demonstration of TGS-NOPEC's data processing services shows a line from our Rås Sub-Basin Detail Survey, originally acquired and processed in 1995 and reprocessed in 2003 with the aim of increasing the signal-to-noise ratio and improving imaging.

This was achieved by applying techniques previously developed by TGS-NOPEC for dealing with similarly difficult data in neighbouring areas. These include judicious choice and positioning of noise attenuation routines, an iterative approach to demultiple and velocity analysis, whilst incorporating survey-wide interpretation and careful mute selection.
